Glory days! Netflix and I were getting a little too close for comfort by May and something needed to be done about it. Thank goodness someone in my family had the motivation to get me off the couch and to NEW YORK CITY! I'm so proud! My older brother Carlos graduated from Columbia Business School (we got the tour the day before) with his MBA this past May. We got to see him dressed up in some powder blue (a color eerily similar to the blue he wore at his high school prom!) robes and see him walk across that stage for a Masters degree.
Not only did we get too see him walk but Carlos graciously played tour guide and took us around Manhattan! Again as soon as I get my laptop back I will upload pictures...I took kinda a lot...like a lot.
First stop for my genealogy obsessed mom was Ellis Island! We stood in line an got serenaded to by a man in a yellow and orange hat that looked like it could belong to the Cat in the Hat. We got on a ferry and set sail across New York Harbor ( I had to google that) and took pictures of the Lady Liberty! It was a really cool feeling looking at the Statue of Liberty and thinking that this iconic statue was one of the first things my ancestors saw as they were coming from Italy and Poland. Amazing. We then got off an Ellis Island. The coolest part of that building was the second floor. It was nothing like that scene in the Godfather but if you imagine partitions and all that other stuff... I don't know it was just really cool and my mom seemed to enjoy herself.
Our next stop was the Financial District! My brother is kinda big cheese. He works at Deutsche Bank on Wall Street and we wanted to see where he was going to be working. It was really awesome! I love federalist and roman revival architecture (nerd) and seeing where my big brother was going to work there was cool-awesome! Internally I was waiting for some Ben Gates, Riley Poole, and Abigail Chase to pop out National Treasure Style.
Time Square was our next stop. SO COOL! My brother lived on 116th and Broadway (you know the street from Enchanted?!) but its a little close to Harlem. Mom kept saying "this does not look like Broadway from the song!" or something to that effect. Anyway when we got to Time Square mom declared that THIS is what she imagined in the song. Billboards, peopled dressed up, city blocks blocked off for movies, and guys selling knock-offs. That's exactly how I imagined it!
We walked to Rockefeller Center and 5th Avenue and Columbus Circle and The Plaza and Central Park (everyone was tires so we just walked by). And THEN we passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel...that's a lie. Then we went home and had some delicious pizza with pepperoni and jalapenos (something my brother introduced... YUMMY! He even gave us a concert and played guitar and sang for us- i joined in a little but left it to him...he's better! :D ) . It was incredible! I LOVE New York! For Only being there a day and a half we saw a lot!
It was Fantastic seeing my older brother again! So Proud and I had a lot of fun! Thanks Carlos!
